As with any electronic, the reviews can be polarized. I have been satisfied with this camera so far! We use it as a baby monitor for my son’s room. The night vision is great. The notifications can be personalized (I have it notify me for baby cries and person detection, not motion or other sounds). The range of views is great and ease of changing views is easy. I’ve been happy with the app too. I bought a 256GB SD card which allows us to go back and look at the camera recordings from the past. Most important thing to emphasize — with the SD card, you can go back and watch recordings without any subscription! You also get notifications without any subscription (with or without an SD card).
Only reason I gave this 4 stars- you cannot leave it streaming as a baby monitor. After 10 minutes, the screen times out and asks if you want to keep streaming. With that popup, you won’t hear anything. Huge design flaw if you’re looking to use it as a baby monitor. We have a sound/video monitor that we used when he was an infant, so we just use that for the monitor purpose when we’re sleeping. Overall very happy with the camera. We were disappointed that we couldn’t stream it continuously to use as a baby monitor, but since we figured out a work around, we don’t mind.

I bought it for travel to keep an eye on my belongings while in hotel rooms and Airbnbs. It doesn’t really work for this. It depends on a wifi connection with a singular passcode. Any wifi system that requires logging in by room number or name prevents this from being used. Thus, it tends to work at all Airbnbs, older hotels, but not newer/bigger properties.

Also, many international hotels require a key card in a socket to power your room, so that you don’t waste energy while gone. Because of this, your outlets may or may not be active when you step away for the day. If this is the case, you can plug this into the fridge socket. Desk power may also stay live when you are gone—you’ll need to test.

I use a second device (spy camera) the size of a iPhone charger to record video to a card. It is the backup for this, but also covers me when wifi blocks this from working. The little spy camera I keep pointed at this in case someone tries to unplug this. Imperfect system, that I didn’t think through so well.

Is a great device, but not designed for travel.

One of the best indoor cameras out there. I really belive that you are getting a fair value tp price when comparing to other cameras as there is no subscription involved and the camera is very customizable.

The camera quality can be chosen between 720, 1080 and 2 k, however, choosing the highest quality will make the recordings very heavy and you won’t be able to hold a lot of days in a sd card. Using the 256gb card at 1080 p allows me to keep more than a month’s worth of 24/7 recording available. The camera can be switched to be static focusing at a single point or you can choose up to four different points where in «Patrol mode» the camera will rotate between these at a customised time interval which is very help full as with a single camera you can have up to four different easy to reach views. The night vision on the camera is very good as the clarity is very good but beware because a person can see the IR beams to light up the ambient for the camera. One of the best features is the person tracker, when it detects a person it follows them until they are out of frame, however, if you walk fast you will out run the cameras tracking system and the camera will stop following. Besides, it has the ability to notify you if it detects sound, which is very useful when not present at home.

Overall, one of the best cameras out there as it is highly customizable event to the point where you choose when you would like to be notified by movement inside of your hzome. You can set it to notify you after every movement excedes between 0.1 to 5 seconds. I will definitely buy my next cameras from this brand.

I have had this camera running 24/7 for a month straight without issues.

Recording at 720p will use about 5gb of storage a day (24 hours), as this is one of the few cameras that accepts 256gb cards you’ll be able to record for a month an a half straight. On the SD card the camera records in 1 minute increment .mp4 files and captures thumbnail screenshots when movement is first captured. This means you can easily work your way back to find the video you want. The camera will automatically overwrite the oldest files when the SD card is full.

I don’t have any other Kasa products and no homepod, so I automate the camera with the IFTTT app on my iPhone. Using a location trigger, the camera turns on/off based on if I leave/entry a boundary around the house. Kasa has also just updated the app to integrate better with the built in Apple Shortcuts app.

I was worried I would need the subscription to make this camera functional, but the camera sent notifications to my phone super quick, and I was able to view the recordings/live stream without any issues. I used both the Apple and Android apps, and think the Apple app is slightly better — it lets you quickly find recordings of when the camera sees activity. On the Android app you have to scroll through the timeline (but there are visual clues to help you find the «activity» amongst the rest of the recording where nothing is happening). If you have the subscription however, you’ll be able to find the recordings of activity on Android (and Apple) much easier as those specific clips are sent to the cloud and appear in a separate tab on the app.

The other advantage of the cloud service is that should your home network go down / camera disconnected, you will be able to view recordings that had been stored in the cloud. Else you will have to get the camera reconnected to the network in order to view the clips. I think TP Link have the right balance between functionality with and without the subscription.

The camera caught activity both during the day and night without issue. It also has a function to alert when there is a loud noise. The tracking works great as well, it performs pretty well with people tracking and overall the speed is really acceptable for the price.
